Description | Apolipoprotein AI promotes cholesterol efflux from tissues to the liver for excretion. Apolipoprotein AI is the major protein component of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in the plasma. Synthesized in the liver and small intestine, it consists of two identical chains of 77aa; an 18aa signal peptide is removed co-translationally and a 6 amino acid propeptide is cleaved post-translationally. Apolipoprotein AI is a cofactor for lecithin cholesterolacyltransferase (LCAT) which is responsible for the formation of most plasma cholesteryl esters. Defects in the Apolipoprotein AI gene are associated with HDL deficiency and Tangier disease. Source: Human Plasma HDL Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. |
