Description The Gal80p complex consists of three components encoded by GAL4 ,GAL80 , and Gal3 . These components form a herterotrimeric complex. S. cerevisiae responds to galactose as sole carbon source by activating the GAL genes. The switch from expressed to activated gene expression involves the interplay of three proteins: the activator Gal4p , the repressor Gal80p , the inducer Gal3p , and two small molecules ATP and galactose. In the absence of galactose the transcriptional activity of Gal4p is inhibited by Gal80p . The association of galactose and ATP with Gal3p promote its interaction with the Gal4p -Gal80p complex. This interaction allows Gal4p to be freed from Gal80p inhibition and activate transcription. It has also been shown that Gal1p can also relieve the Gal80 repression of Gal4p in the presence of galactose, although less efficiently than Gal3p. Pathway: Transcription Localization: Nucleus Sequence (linear): DERGNRLGQRVPKTVC (Cys-KLH) Quality Control: HPLC, MS Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute to nominal volume (see reconstitution instructions for peptides) and store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
