| Description | Gal-3 interacts, via its lectin domain, with glycoproteins and glycolipids on the surface of animal cells. It has been shown that nuclear Gal3 can modulate gene expression while cytosolic Gal3 can inhibit apoptosis and participate in exocytosis. Gal-3 is generally expressed by the epithelial cells of many tissues as well as by inflammatory cells. An increased level of Gal-3 expression may lead to some lymphomas, as well as thyroid and hepatic carcinomas while the down-regulation has been associated with breast and colon cancer. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to human Galectin-3 expressed in E. coli. Molecular Weight: ~26.1kD Biological Activity: Measured by its ability to agglutinate human red blood cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 3-10ug/mL. Endotoxin: <1EU/ug (LAL) Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | ||
