Description Galectin-1 belongs to growing family of evolutionary conserved animal lectins. Galectins consists of beta-galactoside binding lectins that contain homologous carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). Galectin-1 has the ability to induce apoptosis of activated T-cells and T-leukemia cell lines. Other activities include cell differentiation and inhibition activity of CD45 protein phosphatase activity. Galectin also binds beta-galactoside as well as CD45, CD3 and CD4. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to 134aa residues from human Galectin-1, expressed in E. coli. Molecular Weight: ~14.5kD Biological Activity: Determined by its ability to chemoattract human blood monocytes. Chemotactic activity was observed at a concentration of 2.5ug/ml with a peak response obtained at 250ug/ml. Endotoxin: <0.1ng/ug Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile dH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
