| Description | This lectin (MAL) is the leucoagglutinin or mitogenic isolectin form from Maackia seeds. This multimeric lectin dissociates into 38,000 and 40,000 molecular weight bands in SDS gels in the presence of reducing agents and is a single 75,000D band without reducing agents. It has an isoelectric point about pH 4.6 and has been reported to have a molecular weight of about 130,000 by gel filtration. This lectin binds glycoconjugates having galactosyl (b-1,4) N-acetylglucosamine structures. Maackia amurensis lectin I seems to tolerate substitution of N-acetyllactosamine with sialic acid at the 3 position of galactose. However, MAL I does not appear to bind this structure when substitution with sialic acid is on the 6 position of galactose. Applications: User-determined Inhibiting Sugar: 200mM lactose Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | ||
