Description			Clostridium botulinum Type A Toxoid was prepared from purified Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A (BoNT/A) by inactivation with formaldehyde, producing a toxoid that closely resembles the native toxin but which is not toxic. Identity: In Western Blot assays, Clostridium botulinum, Type A Neurotoxin reacts with chicken anti-BoNT/A and mouse anti-BoNT/A. Toxicity: Tested using subcutaneous mouse lethality. At the dose tested (4ug/mouse), there were no deaths and no signs of illness during 7 days of observation. Antigenicity: A sandwich ELISA was performed using chicken anti-BoNT/A and mouse anti-BoNT/A as the secondary antibody. The data indicate that 368593 (BoNT/A toxoid) was approximately five times less antigenic (midpoint of 140ng/ml) than the BoNT/A (midpoint of 30ng/ml). These results are significantly improved over other commercially available toxoids prepared by formaldehyde inactivation. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at 4°C. Do not freeze. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
